Get to the Sporades
Skiathos has the airport; Skopelos is a 45-90 minute ferry or flying-dolphin hop from it. Most day trips start on Skiathos for exactly that reason.

The famous stop is real and it is worth it. The little chapel of Agios Ioannis Kastri sits on a rock roughly a hundred metres above the sea, reached by a stair carved into the cliff - the wedding scene of the 2008 musical was shot here, and the climb is the reason the photo looks the way it does. Kastani beach on the west coast is the other one people ask for; the bar you may remember was built for filming and taken away afterwards, which is an honest thing to know before you go looking for it.

"This trip was perfect! We were a group of x5 women from UK, first time in Skopelos and we booked the 5.5hrs private tour option. Manolis was a brilliant guide, warm, friendly, funny, and even offered to pick us up slightly earlier than 9am to avoid large crowds at the Chapel, and that was such a good idea!! The chapel was so quiet when we arrived, its was stunning, we were up and down the steps with no stress and no crowds. As we sat in the cafe after with our Frappes, we watched the buses arrive!! Kastani Beach was also divine, a perfect place for lunch, a swim, and a giant watermelon cocktail! The transport was a new, air conditioned minibus - so comfortable, and great views whilst driving around too. Would 100% recommend this trip, wish we could do it again!"

At Agios Ioannis Kastri on the island's northeast coast - a small working chapel perched on a rock about a hundred metres above the sea, reached by a stair cut into the cliff face. It was used for the wedding scene of the 2008 musical; it is a real church with services, not a set, and visitors are asked to dress respectfully.
Nobody agrees. Published counts range from 106 to 198 to 223 depending on where the counter starts, and no official figure settles it. What matters practically: it is a steep, exposed, hand-rail-assisted climb of a few minutes that most reasonably mobile visitors manage, and it is genuinely hot in midsummer - go early or late and bring water.

Yes - Kastani is a pebble-and-sand beach on the west coast with clear, sheltered water and a taverna above it. The beach bar that appears in the film was a temporary structure built for the shoot and removed afterwards, so do not go looking for it; what remains is simply a very good swimming beach: the honest guide.
June and September, comfortably. The sea is warm, the boats and tavernas are running, and the day-trip crowds are thinner than in July and August. May and October are quieter and cooler with reduced ferry schedules; from November the island largely closes down for the winter.
Not for a day trip - the organised tours cover the chapel, beaches and viewpoints. For a stay of several days a car or scooter helps: the island is bigger than it looks, the good beaches are spread along the west coast, and buses run to the main stops but not on your schedule.
