The Crossing from Skiathos

Skiathos has the airport; Skopelos has the chapel. The water between them is the practical question for most visitors.

The crossing

45 to 90 minutes, depending on the vessel and whether it calls at Glossa (Skopelos’s northern port) before Skopelos Town. Conventional ferries are slower and cheaper; high-speed catamarans and flying dolphins cost more and cut the time. In high season several sailings run daily; in the shoulder months the timetable thins, and in winter it becomes a different proposition entirely. Operators’ own schedules are the authority on any given date.

Day trip or stay

The day-trip shape is the common one: a boat from Skiathos that takes in the Skopelos coast, a beach stop and the famous chapel from the water - the 1,030-review cruise is the deepest-proven version. The stay shape is better if the island itself interests you: take a ferry, sleep two nights, and use a land tour to reach the chapel’s courtyard rather than photographing it from the sea.

The distinction matters more than it sounds: boat days rarely climb the chapel steps. If standing at the top is the point of your trip, book a land-based tour or make your own way there.
